REEL TECHNOLOGY
IPX RATING
The IP standard is an International Ingress Protection Rating. Giving you a clearer picture of how water resistant your product is, compared to vague marketing terms such as ‘waterproof’.
It’s a rating that states how protected the gear is against water getting into the casing and affecting the internals. In order to achieve an IP rating the product must pass an international standardised testing procedure.
IPX5 – WATER JETS
Sealed from splashes and spray, protecting key internal parts.
Water projected by a 6.3mm nozzle at a flow rate of 12.5 litres/ min at a pressure of 30kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 meters against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
IPX6 – POWERFUL WATER JETS
Sealed from heavy seas and spray, protecting key internal parts.
Water projected in powerful jets against enclosure from any direction at a flow rate of 100 litres/min at a pressure of 100kN/m2 for 3 minutes from a distance of 3 metres shall have no harmful effects.
IPX8 – FULL SUBMERSION
Sealed body, spool, drag assembly and handle.
Independently verified by the International Ingress Protection Rating, the Authority is approved for ZERO water ingress during 30 minutes of submersion at 1 metre of depth whilst reel components are stationary.

ROD TECHNOLOGY
BLANK
SLC2
PENN’s SLC2 blank construction on inshore models houses inner spiral carbon wraps and outer layers of longitudinal carbon fibres to provide an extremely strong, yet balanced rod.
RCB2
PENN’s RCB2 construction consists of rolled composite core and outer layers of longitudinal glass to provide a lightweight, thin, and parabolic blank that flexes from grip to tip, distributing weight for extra durability.
ULTRAFLEX
Constructed using PENN’s UltraFlex Graphite Construction with high density graphite as the core of the blank. Carbon yarn and PBO fibre are woven in combination with the graphite to create a super strong, lightweight blank with increased compression resistance and break resistance.
SLS3
SLS3 construction uses inner and outer spiral wrap layers of carbon fibre to sandwich middle layers of alternating longitudinal carbon and glass. The spiral wraps maintain a round cross section in the blank when under load which helps the blank handle higher loads. The middle layers of unidirectional carbon and glass create the backbone of the rod by utilising the strength of glass combined with the lightweight of the carbon fibre to deliver a strong, balanced, and thin rod blank.
SWC
PENN Spiral Wrap Construction SWC process combines dual inner blank construction with a spiral outer wrap for extra strength and performance. A core of dynamic Power Glass is over-wrapped with a layer of High Modulus Graphite, the dual core is then spiral-wrapped with a Carbon protective outer-layer for increased power, strength and overall performance.
CARBON SHIELD
Woven carbon fibre is applied as an outer shield to protect rod blanks and guide wraps.
SOLID TIP TECHNOLOGY
Tip section of the rod is solid and not hollow to virtually eliminate breakage.
